Breed Information

In the United States, the answer to "what should a Ridgeback be?" is a question that one can find myriad opinions on.  The starting point, of course, is the American Kennel Club's Standard for the breed.  As with all breed standards, the Standard for the Rhodesian Ridgeback is open to subjective interpretation.  It is that subjectivity that makes for excitement (or frustration) at dog shows.  To assist others in understanding that standard, we have prepared a comprehensive look at it as it exists today, along with the elaboration to the standard adopted a few years ago.  We have also included the original standard from South Africa and our own "two cents" commentary.  You can see all of this by clicking on the link at left.

On a much more exiting level, we have also included a page on lure coursing.  This is a formal event which attempts, in a somewhat controlled setting, to reproduce the field skills necessary for sighthounds and dual sense hounds such as Ridgebacks.  We have pictures and more information on that page which is accessed by, you guessed it, the link at left.
