STUD SERVICE VIA FROZEN INSEMINATION
Some of our stud dogs were collected when they were younger and are available for stud service to approved bitches via Artificial Insemination of frozen semen. In all cases, the semen was collected by the Carol Bardwick of the Canine Cryobank in San Marcos, California. Each "straw" is packed with approximately 100,000 semen cells, and a test thaw performed to ensure proper viability and vigor. Because so many factors are involved in the success of frozen semen insemination that have nothing to do with the semen itself, and because the frozen semen for any particular stud dog is limited in quantity and irreplaceable, the contract for stud service via frozen semen is different than that for live breedings and/or fresh extended inseminations. Technically, the Breeder is buying the semen itself as opposed to the services of the stud dog. The contract guarantees that the semen provided will include a certain number of cells and identify the test thaw information regarding viability and vigor of the semen. For that reason, we strongly recommend Breeders only use frozen semen artificial insemination on proven bitches, and then only by surgical implant by a competent reproductive veterinarian.
