Stud Service
Choosing a stud dog is
quite a bit more than just finding the nearest boy with "parts."
Sometimes, after a careful analysis of the potential stud dog himself, his sire
and dam, his littermates and his get previously produced, one is now
half-ready. The research must then be done into the extended pedigree,
looking for potential benefits and negatives that might result from a breeding.
Finally, where possible, actually meeting the stud dog is preferable, since no
photograph, pedigree or health record will reveal a dog's temperament. If
the dog is not available, inquiries to trusted fellow breeders is a good way to
get the "scoop" on a particular stud dog's behavior.
Here
at HPK-Tropaco, we currently offer a number of Ridgebacks at stud. Shumba,
Reno and Arbie are available via artificial insemination from frozen semen to
approved bitches. For more information on these Ridgebacks, click on the
ice cubes at left.

We also have stud dogs
that are available for live breedings and artificial insemination via fresh,
fresh extended or frozen semen to approved bitches. To learn more about
these Ridgebacks, click on the picture at right.
We require all bitches to
have all health testing mandated by the Breeder Code of Ethics for the Rhodesian
Ridgeback Club of the United States, Inc. Except in extenuating
circumstances, the bitch must be an AKC conformation champion and have a
bloodline that compliments that of the proposed stud dog. We're also picky
about temperament and a few other issues. All breeding is done pursuant to
a thorough stud service contract (which differ depending on whether the service
is via frozen semen or other methods.)
